This temple is located in Chinatown Bangkok. It's known for housing the biggest gold Buddha statue in the world, recorded in the Guinness Book of Word Records. 

The Buddha in the Sukhothai art style weighs 5.5 tons, and nearly 4 meters high. It consists of nine parts fitting smoothly together. Weld lines can be visible on the surface.

The Buddha statue is enshrined in the building with many spires which is called "Phra Mondop". It has 4 floors, the first floor is used for religious ceremonies, the second and third floors hold an exhibition telling about the history of Chinatown and the origin of the gold Buddha statue, the top floor is where you can see the gold Buddha statue and buy Thai amulets or talismans.

Besides the gold Buddha, there is another Buddha statue in the ordination hall, that is smaller but equally beautiful statue. Villagers call him "Luang Pho Toh". 

This temple becomes known again, after Leicester City won the Premier League in 2015-16. At that time, Mr.Wichai Srivaddhanaprabha who was the owner of King Power and chairman of Leicester City Football Club invited the assistant abbot of Wat Traimit (known as Chao Khun Thongchai) to England to give his blessings at the King Power Stadium in Leicester. 

The monk also gave fabric talismans to prayers before a game. Thai people believed that the fabric talisman was behind Leicester's success. 

The history of the temple

This temple was originally called "Wat Samjeen". Later, the name was changed to what it is called today. Samjeen and Traimit have the same meaning - both mean three Chinese. It's assumed that the temple was built by three Chinese. 

The Buddha statue was cast sometime in the 13th century, originally covered in plaster to hide it from thieves. The Buddha statue was installed in a temple by the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, which later became abandoned around 1931.

Later, the East Asiatic Company extended its operations into the area of the abandoned temple, so the Buddha statue was moved to its present location at Wat Traimit in 1935.

The true nature of the gold Buddha was discovered in 1955, because the plaster was removed during relocation of the statue. 

วัดไตรมิตร

วัดนี้ตั้งอยู่ในย่านเยาวราช (ไชน่าทาวน์) ซึ่งการเดินทางมาเที่ยววัดนี้ก็ง่ายมากๆ แค่นั่งรถไฟใต้ดินหรือที่เราเรียกว่า เอ็มอาที มาลงสถานีหัวลำโพง ทางออกหมายเลข 1 แล้วเดินต่อมาอีกไม่เกิน 10 นาที ก็จะถึงวัด

ถึงแม้จะเป็นวัดเล็กๆ แต่วัดนี้ก็โด่งดังมาก ทุกคนต่างเดินทางมาชื่นชมความงามของ พระพุทธรูปทองคำ ศิลปะสุโขทัย องค์พระสามารถถอดได้ 9 ส่วน เราจะเห็นรอยเชื่อมที่องค์พระเลย ถือว่าเป็นพระพุทธรูปทองคำที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก ได้รับการบันทึกใน หนังสือกินเนสส์บุ๊ก 

องค์พระทำด้วยทองคำ สูง 3.9 เมตร กว้าง 3 เมตร หนัก 5.5 ตัน ศิลปะสุโขทัย ปางมารวิชัย อายุ 700+ ปี ประดิษฐานในพระมณฑป (อาคารหินอ่อนที่มียอดแหลม) ซึ่งมี 4 ชั้น ชั้นแรก เป็นที่ประกอบพิธีทางศาสนา ส่วนชั้นสองและสาม เป็นที่จัดนิทรรศการให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับไชน่าทาวน์และพระทองคำ ชั้นบนสุด คือที่ประดิษฐานพระทองคำ สำหรับใครที่อยากเช่าพระ ของขลังไปบูชา ก็เช่าได้เลยที่ชั้น 4 ราคามีตั้งแต่หลักสิบบาทเป็นต้นไป

นอกจากพระทองคำแล้ว ยังมีพระพุทธรูปอีกองค์ที่สวยงามไม่แพ้กัน นั่นคือ พระะพุทธทศพลญาณ (พระประธานในอุโบสถ) เป็นพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้น ลงรักปิดทอง ชาวบ้านมักเรียกท่านว่า "หลวงพ่อโต" หรือ "หลวงพ่อวัดสามจีน"

วัดนี้กลับมาโด่งดังอีกครั้ง หลังจากที่นายวิชัย ศรีวัฒนประภา ผู้เป็นเจ้าของคิงเพาเวอร์ และประธานสโมสรฟุตบอลเลสเตอร์สิตี้ ได้นิมนต์เจ้าคุณธงชัย (ผช.เจ้าอาวาสวัดไตรมิตร) ไปประเทศอังกฤษ ไปทำพิธีประพรมน้ำมนต์ และแจก ผ้ายันต์รุ่นเลสเตอร์ ให้แก่นักฟุตบอล ก่อนการแข่งขันจะเริ่ม และส่งผลให้ ทีมเลสเตอร์ชนะเลิศพรีเมียร์ลีก ฤดูกาล 2015–16 เป็นแชมป์ครั้งแรกในประวัติศาสตร์ของสโมสร ตั้งแต่ก่อตั้งทีมขึ้นมาในปี พ.ศ.2427 

ประวัติพระทอง

วัดนี้เดิมชื่อวัดสามจีน ต่อมาได้เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็นวัดไตรมิตร ถึงแม้ชื่อวัดจะเปลี่ยนไป แต่ความหมายยังคงเดิม ไตร แปลว่าสาม มิตร แปลว่าเพื่อน วัดนี้สร้างโดยชาวจีน 3 คนที่เป็นเพื่อนกัน

เดิมพระองค์นี้ถูกหุ้มด้วยปูน และประดิษฐานอยู่ที่วัดพระยาไกร หรือวัดโชตินาราม เขตยานนาวา กทมฯ ต่อมาวัดนี้ได้กลายเป็นวัดร้างราวปี พ.ศ.2474 ต่อมาบริษัท อี๊สเอเซียติก ได้รับอนุญาตให้ขยายกิจการเข้าไปในบริเวณวัดร้าง ดังนั้นพระพุทธรูปจึงถูกย้ายมาที่วัดไตรมิตร ในปี พ.ศ.2478 

4 ปีต่อมาทางวัดได้สร้างพระมณฑปเพื่อประดิษฐานองค์พระ และวันที่ 25 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ.2498 องค์พระได้ถูกเคลื่อนย้ายไปประดิษฐานที่พระมณฑป ระหว่างการเคลื่อนย้าย ปูนที่หุ้มองค์พระได้เกิดร้าว และแตกออกมา เผยให้เห็นเนื้อด้านในองค์พระ
